Winter causes havoc on most skins, eczema rears its head, dryness and itching take over & a general blah feeling hits most.

Read below for the top 3 issues we see in Salon during

Winter, with our top tips to help.

Dermatitis - Peri-Oral

Perioral dermatitis causes a visible rash around your mouth, nose and eyes. This rash persists for weeks, if not longer, and is typically bumpy, dry, scaly, or flaky. It can cause an itching or burning sensation and NOTHING you apply or do works.

It can go away, then come back or even spread from one area to the other.

The great news is we have a tried & tested method to making sure this pesky rash heals & disappears.

1.          The Zero approach - 14 days of NOTHING on the area. No creams. No cleansers. No sunscreens. No serums. No Makeup. Zilch, Zip. Nothing

2.         Day 6-8 will be the worst. It will be SUPER dry. Which is great! Your skin is healing itself from the inside out!

3.         EGCG serum after day 14 - for a further 7-14 days. We have sample pots of this wonder serum available for $10 or if it is something you suffer from regularly we generally have the full size on the shelf.

4.         After 28 days you can introduce your moisturiser, serums and SPF to the area. Keep make up to a minimum.

5.         LED Facials - LED is the super skin cell healer. IF it is very persistent we recommend weekly during the month, Express LED $45 or a 30 minute $89.

The key is to stick to the above. If you fall off when it gets to day 7, you will need to start again.

The below shows how it can spread. If you have 1-2 dots like the left side of the below photo, this is how it can start for most people.

Dry Flakey skin - specifically forehead

Ah the dreaded itchy, flakey forehead.

Caused by extreme hot & cold climate changes. Think outside at soccer then inside to a steaming hot shower #winter.

Also caused by a lack of Omegas 3,6 & 9 in the skin that support your skin cells to be happy, smooth and plump.

1.          Custom Serum - Supporting your skin with Omegas from the outside helps! Dermaviduals has the best

2.         Upping your Fish oil intake. We love the ones from the naturopath, Metagenics. We are hoping to stock Simka in salon at a later date.

3.         Protecting your skin before the intense temp change - By applying Green Juice BEFORE you go outside in the wind and rain will ensure there is a barrier between the elements and your skin. * Also good for before you get into the pool.

4.         LED Facials - LED is the super skin cell healer. IF it is very persistent we recommend weekly during the month, Express LED $45 or a 30 minute $89.

Ensuring internal and external support is the key to supporting your new cells & keeping your external cells looked after.

Hormonal Acne

There is something about the change of season. It causes a little more MEH, stress seems to peak being inside most of the time & skin tends to flare.

Hormonal acne has been walking through our salon door more than we wish for it to. Increased stress, emotional eating, unbalanced diet & changing hormonal cycles are the main culprits our clients have been experiencing.

So what can you do?

1.          Engage with a Naturopath - Your outsides show us what’s happening on your insides. A Naturopath will make sure you are functioning well in your gut and liver to support your skin.

2.         IPL Skin - Those big Nasty Angry hormonal pimples are no match for our Acne setting on our IPL Machine. Intense blue light will calm Jerry & Bob right down. $29 for up to 5 pimple patches.

3.         Re-evaluate your skincare - If you’re still using the same moisturiser you were using in your 20s, we need to talk.

4.         Relaxation - Yep you read that right. Prioritising getting your cortisol down & relaxing your nervous system is sometimes 98% of the fix. Take the time to drink your coffee in silence. Get ready without the kids in your room. Book that massage or Reiki teatment. 10 minutes of Yoga before you go to bed. What ever it is that can bring you peace for 10 minutes a day. You have 1440 minutes in your day, never say you don’t have time, you just haven’t prioritised it yet.

While we can preach all we want, it is up to you to put in the work & balance yourself from the inside out.
