Ingredients you should & shouldn’t be using in your skincare to support your skin through your 30s& 40s

We all know that there are ingredients in our food that help support our health & ingredients that don’t support our heath, the same applies to skincare. In your 30s & 40s your skin function is on the decline & we need to do all we can topically to support it to be its best.

Our DON’T USE list of ingredients/products:

·      SOAP / Sodium Laurlth Sulphate & its friends – these ingredients strip your skin of its natural function, all of its oils & the friendly bacteria on the surface of your skin. Once you stop using these ingredients you will find that your skin may over compensate the other way e.g.Going from not being oily to being overly oily, while it balances itself out.

·     Extremely granular scrubs – gone are the days of scrubbing your skin raw, it has a similar effect as the above if your skin doesn’t require it.

·     Synthetic or mineral oils, artificial fillers, additives or synthetic fragrances. - These unhealthy and cheap fillers won’t have the same affinity with the skin that natural oils have. Meaning they can coat, block or irritate your skin.

·      Alcohol toners – We need all the good oils we can get as we age & alcoholic toners will also strip your skin.

·      AHAs & BHAs (lactic acid, glycolic acid etc) – these ingredients should only be used if your skin is strong enough to support the reaction that they create.

Our DO USE list of ingredients/products:

·      SUNSCREEN – it’s never too late to use an SPF. Helping to block free-radical damage to your skin cells, SPF helps slow the aging process& support your skin cells.

·      FACE OILS – at night your skin needs to repair itself & breathe, a night time oil designed to work with your skin is a MUST.

·      Vitamin Serum – our skin needs the support of vitamins A, B,C & E topically to support cell formation. A serum uses smaller molecules to deliver the ingredients to exactly where they need to be in your skin for support.

·      CREAM / OIL CLEANSER – as we age our cells require good oils to keep them plump and supported, a cream or oil cleanser makes sure the first step in your skincare routine support this with a good oil exchange. It takes away the dirt and gross oil & replaces it with skin supporting oils.

·      Hyaluronic Acid / HYDRATING LOTION – keeping the hydration levels of your skin, especially if you don’t drink enough water (be real a lot of us don’t, will help replenish the supporting network in your skin cells and surrounds.

·      ENZYME EXFOLIATION – if your skin needs some help with its turnover, a form of enzyme exfoliation is the preferred method. A vitamin A serum or an enzyme exfoliant 1ce a week will help any sluggish skin cycle.

We do also recognise that EVERY skin is different & a thorough consultation is recommended to ensure the right treatment for you and your skin.
